Inverse scattering problem for the Maxwell’s equations

چکیده
Inverse scattering problem is discussed for the Maxwell’s equations. A reduction of the Maxwell’s system to a new Fredholm second-kind integral equation with a scalar weakly singular kernel is given for electromagnetic (EM) wave scattering. This equation allows one to derive a formula for the scattering amplitude in which only a scalar function is present. If this function is small (an assumption that validates a Born-type approximation), then formulas for the solution to the inverse problem are obtained from the scattering data: the complex permittivity ǫ′(x) in a bounded region D ⊂ R is found from the scattering amplitude A(β,α, k) known for a fixed k = ω √ ǫ0μ0 > 0 and all β,α ∈ S, where S is the unit sphere in R, ǫ0 and μ0 are constant permittivity and magnetic permeability in the exterior region D ′ = R \D. The novel points in this paper include: i) A reduction of the inverse problem for vector EM waves to a vector integral equation with scalar kernel without any symmetry assumptions on the scatterer, ii) A derivation of the scalar integral equation of the first kind for solving the inverse scattering problem, and iii) Presenting formulas for solving this scalar integral equation. The problem of solving this integral equation is an ill-posed one. A method for a stable solution of this problem is given.

A Uniqueness Theorem for an Inverse Electromagnetic Scattering Problem in Inhomogeneous Anisotropic Media
We show that the support of a (possibly) coated anisotropic medium is uniquely determined by the electric far-field patterns corresponding to incident time-harmonic electromagnetic plane waves with arbitrary polarization and direction. Our proof avoids the use of a fundamental solution to Maxwell’s equations in an anisotropic medium and instead relies on the well-posedness and regularity proper...

Abstract. We study an inverse scattering problem for Maxwell’s equations in terminating waveguides, where localized reflectors are to be imaged using a remote array of sensors. The array probes the waveguide with waves and measures the scattered returns. The mathematical formulation of the inverse scattering problem is based on the electromagnetic Lippmann-Schwinger integral equation and an exp...

The investigation of the far field operator and the Factorization Method in inverse scattering theory leads naturally to the study of corresponding interior transmission eigenvalue problems. In contrast to the classical Dirichletor Neumann eigenvalue problem for −∆ in bounded domains these interior transmiision eigenvalue problem fail to be selfadjoint. In general, existence of eigenvalues is a...

This paper is concerned with the mathematical analysis of the electromagnetic wave scattering by an unbounded dielectric medium, which is mounted on a perfectly conducting infinite plane. By introducing a transparent boundary condition on a plane surface confining the medium, the scattering problem is modeled as a boundary value problem of Maxwell’s equations. Based on a variational formulation...
